Set-Backs

2011 is set to be a big year and I was very eager to hammer hammer hammer! But it looks like I was too eager. I started upping my running too quickly and pissed off my IT bands. Then decided to go on an epic 60 mile ride with a strong group last weekend. After sending my quad in to spasm I took a few days off and thought that i was good to go. Unfortunately, this wasn't the case. I went out with uber-biker James Walsh and a few other really strong riders for a 90 mile epic ride. Around mile 50 the quad started to spasm again, but i tried to tough it out and get through the ride. The pain got pretty bad and I wasn't able to hang with the group, I also noticed that I was basically one leg pedaling. Finally listening to my body I pulled over called for a ride with about 10 miles left on the loop. I have to say that yesterday I was pretty down on myself, convinced that my season was over before it even began. But now as I spend my Sunday relaxing and rehabing I realize that this is only a minor set-back. My first real race of 2011 isn't for 77 days (Oceanside 70.3) and the A Race (Ironman Coeur D Alene) isn't for 160 days. So its not the end of the world if I cant train hard for the next two weeks. If you couldn't tell Im really just writing this post as a means to vent and convince myself everything is OK.

So I'm just trying to stay positive and ensure that I don't try too much too soon. On a more happy note I have been crushing it in the pool lately and even managed to get in the pool 4 times this week. Here's to a speedy recovery from this nagging quad and then its time to DO WORK.

If your in San Diego next weekend be sure to check out Endurance LIVE!

Happy Training/Racing

don't sweat it dude... there's plenty of time to get ready for those races.... just keep up the swimming and let it heal.

maybe some shorter rides... it seems like it's flaring up on the longer stuff???
